Lifestyle Watches are pleased to present to market this 1971 Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Ref 145.022-71 which has just undergone a full service from our Omega accredited watchmaker.
The Speedmaster's history dates back to 1957 when it debuted as a sports and racing chronograph. It gained fame after NASA selected it for space missions, eventually earning the title of 'the first watch worn on the moon.' NASA subjected it to rigorous tests between 1964 and 1965, including high and low temperature, vacuum, humidity, corrosion, shock-resistance, acceleration, low and high pressure, vibration, and sound tests. Omega's Speedmaster passed all these tests and was officially certified by NASA. Contrary to popular belief, it was Buzz Aldrin, not Neil Armstrong, who first wore the Speedmaster on the lunar surface, as Armstrong left his aboard the spacecraft as a backup. The Speedmaster Professional remains one of Omega's most iconic watches, with a design so timeless that distinguishing between contemporary and vintage models comes down to subtle nuances.
The Speedmaster Professional 145.022 is a sought-after reference that was in production for a long time (1968–1988). It consisted of several iterations, each with small updates. This post moon landing example comes with the‘first watch worn on the moon’ stamped caseback.
This example dates to 1971 and is presented with an Omega outer box and inner presentation box. This watch will be supplied with 12 months warranty from date of purchase.
