In 1938, Oris unveiled a watch featuring an oversized crown, operable by pilots even with gloves on. It boasted large Arabic numerals, arrow-shaped markers for better readability, a fluted crown, and a distinctive arrow-shaped hand with a red tip to display the date. The Big Crown Pointer Date watch became a staple in Oris's history, continuously in production for over 80 years. It weathered various economic fluctuations, societal changes, and passing trends, becoming synonymous with the Oris brand. Indeed, this classic timepiece is integral to Oris's stature as a high-quality, independent Swiss watchmaker.
 
The Big Crown Pointer Date was also pivotal in Oris's resurgence after the Quartz Crisis in the late 1980s, aligning with the company's commitment to crafting solely mechanical watches in the future. This modern interpretation was the first ever release of a full bronze case, bezel, crown and articulated bracelet. Combined with the unique signature design of the date pointer hand, oversized crown and fluted bezel makes this an absolutely stunning and timeless timepiece.
