The history of the Breitling Superocean began in the 1950’s when the demand for high-performance dive watches was at an all time high. Their 200m water resistant cases, concave bezels and oversized markers offered everything professional and amateur divers needed for underwater exploration. By the mid 1960’s, Willy Breitling decided he wanted to improve the performance of the Superocean and developed a calibre where the main chronograph hand would indicate the elapsed dive time. Housing this calibre was the Breitling Superocean Slow Motion watch. With its instantly legible dial, thick minutes track and ratcheted bezel, it became an essential tool for divers.
 
The Superocean Automatic 48 combines high-tech materials and advanced features, designed to meet the needs of serious divers. The case is made from Grade 5 titanium also known as Ti-6Al-4V, is an alloy that includes 6% aluminum and 4% vanadium. It is known for its excellent strength-to-weight ratio, corrosion resistance, and durability, making it an ideal material for high-performance dive watches. The case is DLC coated as well as the pin buckle. The matte blue ceramic bi-directional bezel has a spcial locking system on the left hand side of the case.
