What can we say about Blancpain or the Fifty Fathoms. Blancpain, one of the oldest watch manufacturer's in the world, dating back to 1735 (the oldest within the holy trinity, Vacheron, wasn't born for another 20 years) and a legitimate haute horology brand. Then we come to the Fifty Fathoms it holds a very special place in the dive watch world, being the very first professional dive watch made available to the public in 1953 after a successful run with the French Navy. The Rolex Submariner and Omega Seamaster followed on from the Fifty Fathoms.
 
The Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe is the sleeker, more contemporary counterpart to the classic Fifty Fathoms watch. Named for the deep-diving submersible created by Swiss physicist and explorer Auguste Piccard, the Bathyscaphe was first introduced in 1956 as a civilian alternative to the professional Fifty Fathoms, featuring a smaller size aimed at the recreational diving market.
 
Blancpain has updated the Bathyscaphe with its signature 43mm × 13.45mm case profile, now in grade 23 titanium, and a refined grey dial with striking vertical brushing. Grade 23 titanium, essentially a purer form of the commonly used grade 5 titanium, boasts lower oxygen and iron content, resulting in superior mechanical properties like reduced density and unparalleled corrosion resistance.
 
The watch presents a monochromatic greyscale palette, with the exception of off-white Super-LumiNova on the hands and hour markers, which is lighter than the typical faux-patina, and a red-tipped seconds hand. The case exhibits a slightly darker grey hue than the anthracite dial, with a matte finish throughout. Inside, the self-winding caliber 1315 features a soft satin sheen, soleil-finished bridges, and a gunmetal-tone solid-gold rotor. The dial's date display also adheres to the greyscale theme with a grey background.
